City opens new Wastewater Treatment Plant with ribbon cutting – Guthrie News Page

The City of Guthrie held their official ribbon cutting with the Chamber of Commerce for the opening of its new Wastewater Treatment Plant on Monday, October 28th.

The event was attended by Congresswoman Stephanie Bice and State Representative John Pfeiffer, whose presence highlighted the regional importance of this project.

This modern facility, located near the City’s landfill, was funded by a $20,000,000 loan from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board’s(OWRB) Clean Water State Revolving Fund includes a sequential batch reactor treatment system, a high-capacity lift station, and enhanced sludge management and disinfection capabilities. These upgrades allow for cleaner, more efficient water treatment processes, significantly benefiting the community and local environment.

“This plant is an investment in Guthrie’s future, ensuring we protect our water resources and meet the demands of our growing community,” said Mayor Steve Gentling. “The support from OWRB and state resources has been invaluable in bringing this project to fruition.”

According to Joe Freeman, Chief of the OWRB’s Financial Assistance Division, the Guthrie Public Works Authority’s customers will save over $1,000,000 in financing costs over the life of the 20-year loan compared to traditional financing.

The loan was secured with the revenues of the Authority’s water and sewer systems and a 1.75% sales tax.

Attendees enjoyed guided tours where they learned about the plant’s cutting-edge systems and the steps Guthrie is taking to protect local water resources.
