Cypet to unveil new solutions for PET processing at K 2016

PlasticsToday Staff | Aug 30, 2016

Cypet Technologies Ltd (Nicosia, Cyprus), a manufacturer of single-stage PET processing machines using its own, patented technology, will showcase the world's two biggest 50 liter PET containers at K 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany (Hall 14/C58).

The first is a 50-liter beer keg capable of withstanding over 9 bar burst pressure, now in production in Australia on a Cypet K 53 machine model. To complement this 50-liter keg size, the machine also produces 30 liter beer kegs as well as 35 liter conical-shaped PET fermenters for home brewing.

The second is a 50-liter container used for transporting milk, with a 180-mm neck diameter and with unique molded-in handles for easy carrying, now in production in Kenya on a Cypet K 38 machine model. To complement this 50-liter milk jug size, the machine also produces a 20-liter version with the same neck and handles.

Cypet said that its largest K 53 machine model is capable of making up to 100 liter PET containers. Such containers can take the place of HDPE drums, particularly for single-trip applications, resulting in significant weight reduction, with the corresponding substantial savings in raw material cost.

A new innovation currently under development from Cypet will also be shown at K 2016, claimed to be a revolutionary handle concept for PET bottles, with the same functionality and convenience that HDPE bottle handles have. This is a patent pending, incorporated PET handle, which is molded into the preform, resulting in PET bottles that can successfully challenge HDPE bottles with handles, for sizes ranging from 1 to 30 liters.

With the new handle concept, the bottle is produced ready with the handle in one step on a Cypet single-stage machine, eliminating the need to separately mold handles from a different polymer and also the need for a second operation of feeding the handles into the blow molds during blowing or clipping the handles onto the blown bottles. Also, recycling is easier with new handles concept, since bottle and handle are made from the same PET material.

Cypet will also show at K 2016 its new range of preform molding systems, which incorporate an innovative post cooling system, making it ideal for thick preforms for large bottle sizes (5 – 30 liters). Cypet's preform molding system is based on an injection mold with two sets of cores and two post cooling stations with two sets of cooling tubes each. This provides intensive preform cooling for two cycles on the injection cores, for one cycle in the injection cavities and for four cycles in the post-cooling tubes.

Cypet preform molding systems are available with 2, 4, 6 or 8 cavities, for preforms up to 11 mm thick for up to 30 liter bottles.
